Description

JOLIET, IL — Congressman Bill Foster announced on Thursday morning that Stepping Stones, Inc. is getting $2 million to build a new eight-unit apartment building on its Joliet property at 1621 Theodore Street and 1620 Plainfield Road. Seven units will house a mother and one or two of her children, Foster's staff announced. Each apartment will be 750 square feet and include two bedrooms and one bathroom. A house manager and an assistant housing manager will live in the eighth apartment unit on the property. "Recovery based housing for women and their children is not available in Joliet and the surrounding area," Foster remarked in Thursday's news release. "Lack of access to safe housing and other auxiliary services is a significant barrier to recovery, especially for women with families. Stepping Stones, Inc. is a not-for-profit providing clinical services and recovery support for people seeking treatment for substance use disorders. A Democrat, Foster represents the residents of the 11th Congressional District of Illinois. In 2019, Congressman Foster was on hand for the demolition of Joliet's Fairview public housing projects.
