Description

GILROY, CA — The City of Gilroy received a $3.9 million grant from the California Department of Transportation's Clean California Local Grant Program, the Gilroy Dispatch reports. The funds will be used to improve the Gourmet and Railroad alleys between Fourth and Seventh streets through new lighting, benches, garbage enclosures, bike and pedestrian markings, improved signage, and more. It will also be used to launch a "Keep Gilroy Clean" campaign to raise awareness of proper trash disclosure, the Dispatch said. The city plans to install 16 new garbage receptacles along the alleyways, and repave them with stamped concrete. Gilroy was the only city in Santa Clara County to receive a grant, according to Mayor Marie Blankley. – See here for the full Gilroy Dispatch report.
