MOORESVILLE, NC — A baby was vaccinated against his parent's wishes in Mooresville, according to Queen City News. The baby's mother, Catherine McHutchison, says she gave birth at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in February and was shocked to learn her infant was vaccinated against Hepatitis B against her wishes. She formally declined the vaccine in documents, but her baby still received it. McHutchison says she received an apology letter from the hospital, per Queen City News. According to the CDC, "Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Hepatitis B is spread when blood, semen, or other body fluids from a person infected with the virus enters the body of someone who is not infected." It is a mandatory vaccination for some pre-schools, schools and universities according to Immunize.org McHutchison did not say specifically why they declined the vaccine, per Queen City News.
