Here are the top three stories in Savannah today: On Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Savannah District completed dredging to deepen the Savannah River. The river is now 47 feet deep and has been extended seven more miles into the Atlantic Ocean. According to the Army, the expansion will boost the Port of Savannah's economic impact because it can now handle larger container vessels. (WJBF-TV)"The Color Purple: The Musical" is filming in the Savannah area this month, and production is looking for local extras to round out the cast. Filming will take place in Savannah, Richmond Hill, Jekyll Island, and the surrounding areas from Mar. 21 through Apr. 7; extras will be compensated. All adult cast, crew, talent, and extras must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
