The Dora Police Department said late Wednesday that one of its officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a spray-painted Toyota pickup truck traveling on Highway 78, due to various traffic violations and suspicion of it being a stolen vehicle.
With assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit continued into the neighboring county and two suspects were eventually apprehended in Hueytown.
The driver of the vehicle — identified as Wright Dewayne Hassell of Tuscaloosa — was wanted by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office for two counts of possession of a controlled substance, six counts of property theft, possession of burglar tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia with nationwide full extradition.
The Dora Police Department pointed out that Hassell is a twelve-time convicted felon.
He was also charged with possession of meth and burprenorphone, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, failure to possess felon card, and multiple traffic citations.
The passenger in the truck was identified as Bobby Leon Sanford, of Elrod. He was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to possess a felon card.
DPD said Sanford is also a six-time convicted felon.
