Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta: Andrew Young – pastor, civil rights hero, congressman, mayor, United Nations ambassador – reflected on the state of world affairs Wednesday at a "Prayer for Peace" event in Atlanta. Discussing the current war in Ukraine, Young, who turns 90 on Saturday, said, "Never in my lifetime have I known so much rancor, so much hatred, so much bitterness, so much fear, so much potential calamity." Wearing a tie in the blue and yellow of Ukraine's flag, he added, "I've been in many tough spots - many, many places where life and death were at stake. But I also learned to walk through the valley of the shadow of death and fear no evil. And so at this moment in our history I call upon you to walk together with us through the valley of the shadow of death across this planet, and fear no evil." (11Alive.com WXIA)"Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler was mistaken for a bank robber at a metro Atlanta Bank of America and was handcuffed while being briefly detained, according to police reports. The incident occurred Jan. 7 at the Bank of America at 1280 West Paces Ferry Road. According to an Atlanta Police Department report, a Bank of America employee called police to report an attempted bank robbery after Coogler passed him a filled-out withdrawal slip with a note written on the back asking tellers to be discreet with the transaction. Coogler, who was still inside the bank when officers arrived, was taken outside and handcuffed as police investigated. Determining the incident was a mistake by Bank of America, Coogler was released, Bank of America apologized and Coogler left. "This situation should never have happened," the director said. "However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on." (WSB Atlanta) Nine acres of land for a new public park that will eventually have direct access to the Chattahoochee River has been acquired by the city of Atlanta. The Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation will develop what is being called Lower Paul Park due to its location along Lower Paul Avenue in the Riverside neighborhood in northwest Atlanta, Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement. Purchase of the land was made possible thanks to partnerships with The Conservation Fund and Park Pride, two of the organizations that are members of the mayor's newly announced Greenspace Advisory Council. "Acquiring this land allows the city to provide our residents with public access to the Chattahoochee River and offer needed parkland to the Riverside community — all while preserving beautiful greenspace for future generations," Dickens said. (Reporter Newspapers) A Georgia Senate bill has advanced that would prohibit social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter from censoring content based on the poster's viewpoint. In a 33-21 vote Tuesday, state lawmakers passed Senate Bill 393, which would prohibit social media platforms from deleting posts or removing users based on the views they express. It would also allow users to sue social media platforms for what the bill calls censorship. Social media platforms would be allowed to ban content that is considered "obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent or harassing." The bill now heads to the Georgia House for consideration. (Atlanta Patch) After setting record high temperatures last weekend, snow is possible this weekend in Atlanta. We may "spring forward" Sunday, but a rapidly strengthening low pressure system will help drive in a rush of arctic cold air on the back side of a cold front Friday night into Saturday morning. Rain in far north Georgia early Saturday morning may briefly change to snow, with some light accumulations possible, mainly for the higher elevations, though some flurries may carry into the northern suburbs as precipitation winds down.
