LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange police responded to two calls about scams that hit residents' pocketbooks. Here is information from the latest La Grange police reports:
A child in the 300 block of South Kensington Avenue was the victim of an online scam Wednesday. The child got a fraudulent customer support number to make an online purchase and was asked to buy several gift cards to use for the purchase. The gift cards totaled about $4,900.A person in the 900 block of West Hillgrove Avenue paid someone $3,000 for an Omega Big Blue model watch, which turned out to be counterfeit. The report was made Wednesday. Karolina Borczyk, 18, of Burbank, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 on a charge of damage to village property. She is accused of pouring soap into the fountain at Village Hall. The incident was Oct. 12. Two other 16-year-old juveniles from Burbank were also cited for putting soap into the fountain. Three Amazon packages were removed Monday from the front porch of a house in the 900 block of Country Club Drive. Each box was worth about $25. A youth's bicycle was stolen from a bike rack between 8 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier School, 145 N. Waiola Ave. The blue mountain bike was unlocked. A suspect in his late teens was seen on video taking the bike. It was valued at more than $300. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
