RIVERSIDE, IL — Riverside's police chief says Christmas comes early for those who steal packages off of doorsteps. "In fact, it's already started," he said in a news release Wednesday. Early Tuesday evening, Riverside police responded to a theft of packages from a front porch in the 300 block of Blackhawk Road. The incident was caught on a Ring doorbell camera. According to the news release, delivery services usually try to leave packages in inconspicuous spots or at least ones that aren't clearly visible from the street. "But delivery workers are rushed; many are holiday temps, so don't expect them to spend too much time concealing your package on the front porch," the release said. In this case, the man was wearing a hoodie, a face mask and gym shoes. He left on foot, but a car could be seen driving past the house. It is unknown if the suspect got into the car as part of the theft, police said. Anyone with information on the suspect may send an anonymous tip email to [email protected] or call the police at 708-447-2127.
