Learn basic wet felting technique with Eliseo Curley, an award-winning Navajo sheepherder from Shiprock, New Mexico. Eliseo raises his own Navajo-Churro sheep, moving them to the Carrizo Mountains in the summer as did his relatives before him. Although he uses the wool to felt and weave, he also raises the sheep for meat.
Eliseo has been working with churro fiber for many years, while volunteering with the Sheep is Life Celebrations and DinĂ© Be IinĂ¡, Inc., a non-for-profit organization that supports all things related to Navajo-Churro sheep on the Navajo Nation. Consequently, he has many good stories to share with students in the afternoon class. Eliseo's current felting art will also be on exhibit during the workshop.
Materials for the small coin bag will be provided. Students must be 14 years or older. Limited to eight participants.
Registration is required Fee: $50.00
