Middletown Wins Award For Township Budget

MIDDLETOWN, PA — Middletown Township has received an award for putting together a good-government budget for the second year in a row. It was one of 12 government bodies to earn the award in Pennsylvania, where there are nearly 3,000 municipalities and other local governments. The township was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2020 budget, the township announced Monday. The award is designed to recognize a commitment to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting. "Middletown Township takes great pride in its financial management and transparency with the community," said Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Ksiazek. "We prepare our budget so staff, the supervisors, and the public are better informed and can make better decisions." According to the association, fewer than 1 percent of the nation's nearly 89,000 local governments earn the award. To get it, Middletown had to satisfy national guidelines for budget presentation designed to assess how it serves as a policy, financial planning, operations and communications tool. Middletown Township also is a 16-time winner of the association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Programs. The township's 2021 budget is being prepared following the group's criteria, officials said, and will be submitted once it is approved by supervisors in December.
