JOLIET, IL — Milano Bakery, Joliet's old-fashioned scratch bakery at 427 South Chicago St. since 1915, came up with a tasty way for customers to celebrate their favorite candidate for president. On Monday night, one of the bakery's managers made a couple dozen sugar cookies for Donald Trump as well as for Joe Biden. For those people who prefer to take a more neutral position, Milano Bakery made a couple dozen cookies that say Vote. On Election Day, Joliet Patch visited Milano's shortly before 11 a.m. So far, the Trump cookies were out selling the Biden cookies by a large margin, the manager said. She said she was not surprised because she lives in Manhattan and said she sees way more campaign signs for Trump than Biden in that area. Thank you Joliet Patch! Don't forget to get out there and vote today! Then come stop by and treat yourself to a tasty cookie, we are open until 1pm today.Posted by Milano Bakery on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 Milano's also made the Vote cookies and placed them in the middle of the tray, maintaining separation from the Biden and Trump cookies. The Vote, Biden and Trump sugar cookies are $1.95 each. According to Milano staff, their owner got the idea of making the Biden and Trump sugar cookies from another area bakery that has had success selling them. Tuesday marked the first time Milano's has made presidential cookies, the bakery manager said. Milano's has made Chicago sports team cookies in the past, and Chicago Cubs cookies always out sell the White Sox, she said. "Hawks and Bulls don't really sell here," she said.
