MALIBU, CA — Malibu Canyon Road reopened early Monday morning after a car hit a power pole Saturday night. The road was closed from Piuma Road to Civic Center Way from 6:35 a.m. Sunday until 2 a.m. Monday, according to Lt. Greg Evans of the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. Evans said that Southern California Edison spent most of Sunday replacing the downed power pole, which is why the road was closed for almost 24 hours. Evans said that no power outages were reported, all the more impressive given that a power transformer fuse on Malibu Road blew out Sunday night, which could have led to a fire. Evans said that SCE has replaced the fuse. Two people were rushed to UCLA Medical Center after the Saturday collision, which happened near the intersection of Malibu Canyon and Malibu Knolls roads, on Saturday night. Their current condition is unknown.
