Description

Create wearable art with recycled materials! Work with artist Kim Bernard to design and construct clothing, adornments, accessories, sculptures, anything wearable from functional to far out. There will be a variety of recycled materials provided that you can work with or you’re welcome to bring your own. Some ideas to get your creative juices flowing: a headpiece crocheted from old rubber inner tubes, shoes with bed spring soles you found in the trash, patchwork designs on pants you bought at the thrift store, a fringe dress made only out of wine bottle corks and fishing line… the only rule is that you don’t buy any new materials! You are welcome to work on your project during a single session or sign up for multiple sessions to spend more time on your wearables. All participants are invited to model their wearables (or have a friend model) at the Upcycled Fashion Runway Show on April’s First Friday at Greene Block Studios event celebrating community, creativity, and sustainability. Kim Bernard creates sculpture that is recycled, kinetic, interactive, public, and involves the community. She creates installations upcycled out of trash and is currently focusing on transforming plastic waste into sculpture using her portable recycling machines.
