Lauritsen, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri – St. Louis About the speaker: Janet L. Lauritsen is Curators’ Distinguished Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of victimization, the social and historical contexts of crime and victimization, and quantitative research methodologies. Her current research analyzes how the risk for violent victimization has been associated with gender, race, ethnicity, and poverty status in the US over the past four decades. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and the National Institute of Justice. Dr. Lauritsen served as Chair of the Panel on Modernizing the Nation’s Crime Statistics for the Committee on National Statistics of the National Academies of Sciences, and was Co-Editor of the journal Criminology from 2018-2020. In 2013, she was named Fellow of the American Society of Criminology, and is currently serving as President-Elect of the American Society of Criminology.
