Description

A walk to celebrate Women's History Month at Turning Point Suffragist Memorial and Occoquan Regional Park Blue Star Connect Outdoors: Women's History Month at Turning Point Suffragist Memorial in Occoquan Regional Park Connect with us outside at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton! Join Blue Star Outdoors DEPLOY Fellow Nicole on an accessible walk starting at the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial, a newly opened interpretive space honoring the women's suffragist movement and their path to victory and the vote. We'll continue on a relaxed walk around the park's paved trail along the river as we enjoy an introduction to the recreational areas. Occoquan Regional Park is located along the Occoquan River in Lorton, at the border of Fairfax and Prince William Counties. Parking is available throughout the park, with a lot beside the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial and Event Center. This park has restrooms and concessions available on site. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any place where multiple people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19. We at Blue Star Families strive to empower military families to thrive by connecting them with their civilian neighbors — both people and organizations — to create strong communities of support. As part of our core mission, Blue Star Families seeks to ensure military families experience a sense of belonging and welcome in the communities in which they live. As a result, we are once again beginning to host in-person events and want to do so in a safe way that gives our members, staff, consultants, and volunteers confidence. As a guest at any Blue Star Families event, I understand that I must wear appropriate PPE based on state and local requirements, as applicable for both indoor and outdoor events in my area. As guidance continues to evolve, Blue Star Families—with the support of health and government officials—will be making more gradual adjustments.
