Description

Join us for learning, networking, and fun in Las Vegas!! This 2-day Conference brings Play Therapy training to Mental Health Professionals Day 1: Foundations of Play Therapy with Cathi Spooner, LCSW, RPT-S starts us out! After lunch, Dr. Jeff Ashby, RPT-S and Dana Holtz, LPC, NCC, RPT-S discuss the Ethics of Play Therapy in a Changing World. *Foundations of Play Therapy: Understanding the foundational elements of play therapy grounds your clinical work with children as a play therapist helping children heal. What sets play therapy apart from simply pulling out games and art supplies to use in therapy sessions with a traditional talk therapy approach? This is an important and pivotal question to consider when using play therapy effectively and accurately. This training provides a fundamental and critical understanding about the use of play therapy in clinical practice with children (even in school settings). You will learn the importance of helping children access the therapeutic powers of play from a play therapy model to heal and build resiliency. You will also examine the importance of using a strong clinical conceptualization “lens” when implementing play therapy effectively with your young clients. *Ethics of Play Therapy in a Changing World: The purpose of this workshop is to highlight the ethical issues of informed consent, competence, and confidentiality as they apply to the recent societal changes that affect play therapy practice (including a pandemic!). Special emphasis will be given to issues related to the internet, social media, telehealth, and other technological changes that have offered new ethical challenges for play therapists. Using case studies and vignettes, participants will be invited to consider the best course of action in a variety of scenarios presenting ethical dilemmas. Day 2: We celebrate World Autism Day with Dr. Robert Jason Grant as he shares the foundations of AutPlay Therapy!! *AutPlay® Therapy: Introduction and Foundations: This training presents an introduction to AutPlay Therapy, an integrative family play therapy approach to working with autistic children and adolescents, neurodivergent children, and children with developmental disabilities. The phases of treatment, primary and secondary target needs, and parent involvement will be covered. Several play therapy interventions designed for addressing the mental health needs of autistic and neurodivergent children will also be presented through experiential participation, session clips, and case examples. Branch Organizing Committee (BOC) for the Nevada Association for Play Therapy (NVAPT) Grievance and Refund Policy The BOC-NVAPT is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the Code of Ethics of Nationally Certified Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be responsibility of the President and Board of Directors. While BOC-NVAPT goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, it recognizes that complaints do and will arise. As such, BOC-NVAPT will do its best to anticipate problems and, when they do present themselves, attempt to alleviate complaints as quickly as possible Grievance Policy When a complaint, either verbally or written, is filed with the President and/or a member of the Board of Directors, the following guidelines are followed with respect to achieving resolution: 1. Complaints relative to a speaker or workshop leader, contents of instructional materials being presented, or an individual educational style being utilized, the individual voicing disapproval is requested to first address concerns to the presenter. If the presenter is not available, place his/her comments in writing. The President will convey these comments to the speaker while maintaining confidentiality of the complainant.2. If the complaint concerns a continuing education activity, its content, level of presentation, or facilities in which the event is being held, the President will attempt to resolve the matter as expeditiously as possible. If the offered resolution (resolutions may include, but not be limited to partial/full refund of fees paid; credit toward future event) not satisfactory to the individual filing the complaint, then further action may be taken. In the latter instance, the individual is requested to place his/her complaint in writing to the attention of the BOC-NVAPT Board of Directors. The complaint is then reviewed by the BOC-NVAPT Board of Directors. A written response will be issued within 30 days of receipt of the written complaint. Within 30 days of the resolution rendered by the BOC-NVAPT Board of Directors, the complainant may file a written appeal to the Association for Play Therapy. The decision of the Association for Play Therapy is final. Refund Policy All refund requests must be made in writing within 15 days of the purchase of continuing education programs. Every effort will be made to achieve resolution, including, but not limited to: refund of fees, substitution of course purchased, credit provided for future course.
