The Art of Coaching Weightlifting : Coaches' Seminar and Clinic The Art of Coaching Weightlifting is a Coaches' Seminar and Clinic is a 16 hour course over 2 plus days. It is not just another course in progressions but comprehensive lessons in teaching, coaching and exercise science applicable to the sport of weightlfiting. The course objective is to give you the tools to become the best coach NOW. The course includes topics like teaching beginners, assessing for errors, a comparative of the most common progressions, lift variations, applicable exercise science, error correction by cue or/and selecting exercises to correct incorrect habitual movement pattern. This is a course for coaches who want an intensive education to increase their level of knowledge and understanding and a complete conceptual understanding of the lifts with full explanations of how and why. The Art of Coaching weightlifting was developed and will be instructed by former two-time national champion, two-time Olympic Festival champion, 5 time world team member and former record holder in both snatch and clean and jerk , Ursula Garza Papandrea. She was an elite international athlete who has distinguished herself as an elite coach in 2003 by becoming the first woman to attain USA Weightlifting’s highest coaching level, Senior International Coach Level 5. She has extensive national and international experience in competitive weightlifting as an athlete since 1987 and 30+ years of coaching experience at national and international levels. Her formal education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science and a Master’s Degree in Political Science. She had career as a Professor at Austin Community College from 1994-2019 in both Kinesiology and Government classes. Ursula is a consummate professional with unparalleled experience and expertise. She revived her career to become Master’s national champion and best lifter in 2009, national champion again in 2010, and once more breaking national and unoffical world records in 2013. She became CrossFit Level 1 certified in 2010 and served as part of the CrossFit Olympic Lifting Certification Staff 2009-2015, as well as teaching the USAW Level 1 and 2 Sports Performance courses since 2009. She was the head coach for the 2014 Men's Team National Champions, Texas Barbell Club, until 2020. She has served on the USAW Board of Directors as a Technical Director since 2009 and first woman to become Chair of the Board/President. She additionally serves as the USA International Relations Director and Weightlifting delegate to the International Weightlifting Federation She has established many historical landmarks in the sport in both coaching and political realm including serving as the first female Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation and first woman to serve as Interim President in the IWF.
