This is a two-day, intermediate course designed for speech-language pathologists who want to advance their knowledge and skills with FEES. This is a two-day, intermediate course designed for speech-language pathologists who want to advance their knowledge and skills with FEES and who may be planning to implement FEES at their facility. This course will follow recommended training guidelines set out by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Course topics include anatomy and physiology viewed endoscopically, when to refer to ENT, VF function and voice, FEES in the pediatric population, and interpretation of FEES examinations using case study examples. The course provides a unique opportunity to generalize, and bring to life, skills acquired in the classroom setting to an Immersive and Simulation-based Learning environment. Participants will be assigned complex case studies and provided with an opportunity to participate in a FEES examination within the context of a real life, acute care hospital based scenario. Following the completion of each scenario, a debriefing session will allow group members to discuss, explore, reflect and learn from this experience in a safe place. The overriding positive differentiator of this FEES course compared to other FEES courses is the Simulation- based learning component. Course will be limited to 20 participants. (Must be licensed speech-language pathologist and not available for students/CFYs) All participants must be vaccinated and have up to date boosters as recommended by the CDC. All current Stanford Healthcare COVID regulations must be followed. Registration FEES: $475. Costs include conference materials, paperwork for CEUs and refreshments/lunch. Registration by May 9th.
