Join us for a special guided tour featuring the stories of enslaved women from Stagville. Explore the lives, work, and resistance of enslaved women on one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. This tour highlights the history of women like Mary, Phoebe, Emma Turner Henderson, and Phoebe Bennehan, based on careful research with oral history and archival sources.
This tour includes content about violence, sexual violence, and family separation. Tours will last 1 hour and 15 minutes. The tour will include walking and standing, both indoors and outdoors, including on some uneven ground, and the program is almost entirely outdoors, rain or shine.
Space is limited, and you must purchase your tickets in advance.
All recommended COVID safety guidelines will be followed at the time of the event, including masks required in all indoor spaces and encouraged when outdoors near others.
