An interactive in-person workshop exploring the expressive arts as the star player in a new, alternative approach for homeschooling families The Path to Knowing: Learning through Expressive Arts is an interactive workshop for families with children 3-10. Adrienne Johnson (The Kindness Machine) and Irania Patterson (CrissCross Mangosauce & Gates for Healing) will lead children and their caregivers through a dynamic and engaging social and emotional exploration of story and self. Caregivers and children will engage with artistic strategies for finding confidence in and validation of our own truths. Together we will jump into a social emotional learning storytime experience to connect with the inner self and to raise the family level of consciousness and self expression. ATTENDEES can expect to: Experience a framework of learning that can be replicated in homeschooling.Explore EXPRESSIVE ARTS modalities (storytelling, visual arts, music, creative movement, applied theater) as a vehicle for deepening understanding.Grow their relationships through emotional connection and expression.QUESTIONS we will explore together: How do you know that you really know? Where do I usually go to find answers?Why do I go “outside” to search for my own truth?What, where, and who are “outside”?What is the outside world and what is the inside world we call Heart?FACILITATORS Irania Macias Patterson is a dynamic speaker, storyteller, author, and educator who specializes in the subjects of arts integration in multicultural- bilingual populations, and the connections with literacy, expressive arts, and emotional learning. For the past 22 years she has worked as an outreach program specialist for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. As an ardent supporter of schools, libraries, and cultural organizations, she has spoken in many arts, education, and humanity based organizations promoting “out of the box” intercultural exchanges for social transformation. She is a Poetry Therapy Facilitator, and the Chair of Diversity for the National Association of Bibliotherapy. She is the founder of Gates for Healing www.gatesforhealing.com and Criss Cross Mangosauce www.ccmangosauce.com Adrienne Johnson is a child-advocate masquerading as a singing, puppet-wielding librarian. For the past 15 years she has worked in international and local schools, nurturing children's need for play, literacy, and belonging. As founder and confetti cannon at The Kindness Machine she creates child-friendly video content to help grow children’s well-being through play, mindfulness, and wonder. She also supports grownups with conscious parenting coaching, empowering them to create strong and loving relationships with the children in their care. She is a passionate wayshower for conscious awareness with the self, in relationships, and in the world.
