Town Meeting Approves Wildwood School Feasibility Study

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington special town meeting voters overwhelmingly approved the sole article on the warrant Tuesday: funding a feasibility study for a new Wildwood School. The article passed 368 to 1, the Wilmington Apple reported. "Thank you to all of the residents of Wilmington who came out tonight to show their support for our students, staff and future generations of young people in the community," Superintendent Glenn Brand said. The vote allows the town to appropriate $1.2 million for a feasibility study, a necessary step on the way to getting state funding for a new building through the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The town was invited into the grant program, which would cover part of the design and construction costs of a new building. But for the town to stay eligible, the funds for a feasibility study had to be appropriated by March 28 — a month before the April 30 annual town meeting. The Wildwood School is the town's oldest school, built 66 years ago, Superintendent Glenn Brand noted in a prior message to the community.
