Description
Jonathan Osler is popular for his great achievements in advancing educational equity. He is fueled by his passion to build and support cross-sector collaboration between educators, community people, non-profit organizations, and philanthropic institutions. Through his passion, he has developed innovative initiatives like Oakland Undivided. While working to connect institutions of learning, non-profit organizations, organizational leaders, and philanthropic allies, he has helped in securing over $70m for educational initiatives through school partnerships. Osler has many projects, one of them being RadicalMath, a hub for educators who need resources to integrate social and racial justice matters in their math classes. The hub developers, including Osler, believe that people can use math as a vehicle for teaching and learning about matters to do with racial and social justice. Also, learners can learn math while exploring issues. Some of the topics learners can explore in a RadicalMath classroom include housing discrimination, community health, right of immigrants, criminalization of people of color, gender biases, and economic exploitation. Jonathan Osler On Education EqualityEducation equality can be achieved by ensuring that the needs of every learner are met. Education equality is based on the fair distribution of resources, possibilities, treatment, and victory for all students. True equality means that the differences in wealth, income, power, and possessions do not cause differences in learning outcomes. The government can help achieve education equality by increasing funding and providing educational resources that place poor children in schools that perform poorly and lack facilities and ineffective educators. Non-profit organizations can help by supporting school choice along with a strong connection between learning institutions, families, and communities. The underprivileged students should also be provided with mentors who guide them in making school life choices. Osler is a very passionate person, especially on matters of equality. As an educator, he has experienced first-hand how some students face education inequality. He believes that there are many benefits to racial and education equality. His goal is to ensure that everyone gets the best education available. Leaners should also get the opportunity to get admission to top universities. Osler strives for racial equality in education as it will improve learners' access to more resources that are beneficial. Where Does Osler’s Passion Come From? During the 9/11 tragedy, Jonathan experienced some painful memories as a student teaching a small public school. The events gave him nightmares about crashing planes into buildings while he unsuccessfully tried to find shelter. He sees teaching equality and justice as human work. Although most of it is greatly rewarding, it also carries grief, struggles, and sometimes the loss of learners they have known for a long time. Osler believes that the experience of starting his teaching career on 9/11 made him more compassionate and caring as an educator. Osler’s passion for equality in education has made him do a lot for his students. He has had a 20-year career in education where he has carried the passion as an educator through his teaching as a high school math teacher and also as a co-principal. He has carried on from these and continuously pursued education equality by bridging learning institutions with potentially useful guides. As an innovator, he expands his innovative abilities by helping his Oakland, California community. He runs programs and initiatives that close the divides through learning and digital needs. Through his Oakland undivided program, he helps maintain balance by connecting families to the digital world. He does this by ensuring that every educator and student has access to a computer through the Oakland Undivided program. Furthermore, Jonathan Osler continues his great work during the pandemic by contributing education knowledge to the Covid Relief Fund for Oakland Students and Schools. He strives to keep public education in schools relevant during the disturbing Covid 19 days. He also invents and operationalizes equity-centered strategic plans. Osler supports a continuous learning culture and has effectively managed projects to attain measurable results. Keeping equality in the middle means creating an inclusive and human-centered process and encouraging cooperation and participation from various stakeholders. His initiatives have provided intensive educational and holistic support for so many students who struggle with remote learning. His passion for creating opportunities for individuals and organizations to invest their resources in helping build power in communities of color continues to bear results.
