WAREHAM, MA — After receiving multiple reports of a Facebook post going around claiming that children are being taken from a retail store in Wareham, police publically denounced these accusations Tuesday.
The post in question has circulated around multiple Wareham Facebook communities, with the author claiming to have received a text from a close friend.
The post claims the friend's kids were almost kidnapped Sunday night inside the Wareham Target while the friend was with their husband.
The post continues, saying the police were called and brought in, claiming this incident "happens all the time" specifically at that particular Target because "it's so close to the highway."
According to the post, the person claims the cops say a group of ten men and four cars are used, claiming it is "definitely a professional job."
Wareham police addressed this post specifically, claiming that none of the information listed in the post is true. "There is a Facebook post circulating that claims children are being kidnapped from a retail store in town and that it happens 'all the time.' This is absolutely not true."
Members of the Facebook group Wareham Hub claim a similar post circulated around the social media platform about three years ago.
