MIDDLETOWN, CT — Michael Conner has resigned as Middletown superintendent of schools, according to the Middletown Press. The Press reported that Conner submitted a letter of resignation late last week, citing recent threats to him and his family that caused him to "reevaluate personal priorities." Mayor Ben Florsheim recently announced that Middletown police are investigating after a "disturbing letter" was sent to Conner's home. Florsheim said the letter "contained language and references that were interpreted as threatening and hateful." Conner described the letter as a "hate packet." Conner has been on leave since October, when his request for a leave of absence "based on advice from his doctors" under the Family Medical Leave Act was granted, WTNH News 8 previously reported. The Middletown Press reported that the Board of Education in January unanimously approved putting Conner on paid administrative leave while claims of improper conduct by central office administrators are investigated.
