LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Federal funds will bring 10 new electric school buses to Loudoun County. The Environmental Protection Agency administered the funds as part of the Diesel Emission Reduction Act School Bus Rebates. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Mark Warner (D-VA) announced the funds on Tuesday. Loudoun County Public Schools will receive $20,000 to replace older diesel buses with clean electric models. Loudoun County was one of five Virginia school districts to receive federal funding for electric school buses. The EPA also awarded funds to Petersburg, Newport News, Culpeper, and Carroll County school districts. "We are glad to see so many Virginia school districts receive funding to invest in electric school buses and cleaner vehicles," the senators said in a news release. "This investment will significantly benefit our communities by reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. We look forward to helping Virginia school districts compete for additional funding through the $5 billion clean and electric school bus grant program in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act." Virginia's school districts received a total of $1.53 million to replace older buses with clean alternatives.
