MERCER COUNTY, NJ — One woman was killed and several injured after a man didn't stop at a traffic signal and hit nine vehicles in Hamilton Township on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
On Tuesday, March 8 at around 1:50 p.m, John MacMillan, 62, was driving south in his 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, when he didn't stop for the traffic signal at Horizon Center Blvd., police said.
MacMillian, from Edgewater Park, hit nine vehicles at the intersection before coming to a stop, police said. One of the vehicles struck was a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 76-year-old woman from Columbus, who suffered serious injuries, authorities said.
Members of the Hamilton Township Fire Department extricated the woman from her car and took her to Capital Health Regional Hospital in Trenton, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said. Her name is currently being withheld.
Emergency Medical Service units from Allentown, Bordentown, Robbinsville, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and Capital Health also came to help with other injuries.
The New Jersey State Police and New Jersey Department of Transportation helped Hamilton police in closing Route 130 south to traffic. The road was opened at 4:40 p.m.
Officer Frank LaVacca from the Hamilton Police Department is currently investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at 609-581-4000.
