Animal Matters Hearing Board Seeks Individuals Willing To Serve

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Individuals interested in serving on Howard County's animal matters hearing board should apply by April 1. Board members serve three-year terms and are responsible for ruling on appeals of animal control law violations, issued orders and declarations related to the enforcement of animal control laws. Members also make recommendations to the county's animal control facility and review the facility's proposed budget. The board consists of seven voting members with at least one licensed veterinarian practicing in Howard County, three members with animal matters experience and three members representing the general public with no more than two members serving on the board from the same County Council district. "Our animal control team works hard to ensure the health and safety of the many beloved pets and animals in Howard County," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. "I encourage residents who are interested in animal matters to apply." To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be Howard County residents, 18 years of age or older, have an interest in animal matters and be able to attend the board's meetings which, when necessary, are held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the George Howard Building, located at 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City. Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the board to Kimberly Pruim either by email to [email protected] or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the county executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
