SMITHFIELD, RI — With a win over Wagner University in the NEC tile game, Bryant University's basketball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament Tuesday for the first time in team history. But 4 minutes and 37 seconds before the Bulldogs earned their March Madness spot, a fight broke out in the stands. The fight stopped the game for about 30 minutes after fans started arguing and throwing punches, and it eventually led to the Connor Gleim, 20, authorities told NBC 10. Gleim was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer in execution of duty. He was arraigned and has since been released. It wasn't clear if the fan was a Bryant or Wagner student. A spokesperson for Bryant University said the majority of students were focused on the game and celebrating the Bulldogs victory, but a few of them took it way too far. "The team presented Bryant spirit and character that was unfortunately not demonstrated by all of our students in the stands last night," Bryant President Ross Gittell said in a statement.
