OAK LAWN, IL — Save the dates, because Oak Lawn's parish carnivals are coming back this summer, along with the Tilt-A-Whirl, the bands, the funnel cakes, the games and the sense of normalcy that we've missed for two years. The Archdiocese of Chicago canceled parish events, such as carnivals and fish fries, due to the pandemic. The carnival ban was lifted mid-summer last year, but too late for the good folks at St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Gerald to mount their carnivals. St. Catherine of Alexandria, 10621 S. Kedvale Ave., will be ready to go June 8 through June 12. Parishioners are welcoming back North American Midway Entertainment to provide the rides. They'll have some returning bands and new groups, along with raffles, sponsorship opportunities, and a diverse learners event. Keep up with St. Catherine of Alexandria Carnival happenings on Facebook. Bookending the other end of summer, St. Gerald Fest and Carnival, 9310 S. 55th Ave., is coming back Aug. 11 through Aug. 14. Watch for the bands, sponsorship opportunities and updates on the St. Gerald Fest and Carnival Facebook page. In addition to showing everyone a good time, proceeds from the carnivals help support parish schools and local ministries.
