Description
WHITTIER, CA — An overturned big rig damaged 50 feet of guardrail causing heavy traffic on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Whittier Thursday afternoon.
As of 4:30 p.m., a SigAlert issued by the CHP remained in effect, and traffic was backed up on both the 605 and the Pomona (60) Freeway. The truck overturned at about 3:05 p.m. on the southbound 605 connector to the eastbound 60, the California Highway Patrol reported. The connector was closed to traffic.
An ambulance was requested to the scene, but no one was taken to a hospital, according to Leslie Lua of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The truck did not leak any fuel, but the freeway's guardrail was damaged, the CHP reported. Crews were working to repair the guardrail as the afternoon rush hour approached.
Traffic on the southbound 605 was backed up all the way to the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, KNX reported.
