SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Sandy Springs officials are asking the public to weigh in on a proposed road crossing construction project at the Fulton County government building on Roswell Road. The online virtual open house is available to the public to respond to now through March 13. City planners have proposed building a pedestrian hybrid beacon midblock crossing at 7741 Roswell Road, the site of the North Fulton Government Service Center, with the goal of creating a safe place for, in particular, MARTA passengers, to get to and from the location. A 2019 Georgia Department of Transportation study found that while an actual signal was not warranted for the driveways to the government center, a hybrid beacon could work, city records showed. The plan will broaden the sidewalk on the side of Roswell Road directly in front of the government building, and add wider sidewalks on the opposite side of the road and a wide median in between the northbound and southbound lanes. There also will be a pedestrian beacon that can be activated by a push-button that will stop motor traffic for those in the proposed crosswalks. City planners have provided full details about the proposal and want public input before moving forward with the project.
