Description

On Sunday, March 6, DTLR, one of the country's most successful lifestyle retailers with more than 240 stores in 19 states, sponsored 150 students from Tri-Cities High School and West Lake High School in East Point, Ga., to travel to Selma, Ala., in partnership with the NAACP. Students marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, a National Historic Landmark and the site of a key march for voting rights during the civil rights movement. Through this moving educational experience, students of all ethnic backgrounds were inspired to respect and appreciate the power of their vote. This event was a continuation of DTLR's nationwide "Mission 1865" campaign. Throughout last month, DTLR participated in several different nationwide community outreach programs, including community service events, partnering with local organizations, and highlighting and supporting black creatives. DTLR's Mission 1865 campaign, which is inspired by the year that the 13th Amendment was passed and ratified by Congress to abolish slavery, provided opportunities and experiences for students and communities to learn about and celebrate African American history and culture.
