Severe Itching on Dogs Back

I just adopted a Queensland heeler Pitbull mix and she is suffering greatly from itchy skin I took her to the vet and the vet gave her a steroid shot and she's on chewable flea tabs and I went and bought various lotions and potions but I'm wondering if anybody has a sure-fired solution for a dog with a itchy back I'm also giving her antihistamines once a day
