Goby Walnut & Western Hardwoods is seeking one full-time kiln operator. We offer full benefits (health + dental), paid vacation, paid training workshops, and use of our wood shop. We are a small Hardwood sawmill with dry kilns, and a shop. We sell lumber directly to the public out of our retail location, and ship across the globe to distributors, wood-workers etc. Job description: The kiln operator is in charge of running 7 kilns on-site to dry our lumber and slabs. He / she is also in charge of monitoring material in the air-drying yard. The operator must pull the material, load and unload the kilns, run kilns effectively, and help keep the yard in working order. Other tasks include: • Checking moisture of slabs and lumber before, during, and after kiln cycles • Documenting progress of kiln items electronically, and on paper • Working with sales team to ensure dry times are accurate • Keeping up-to-date and accurate kiln logs on Microsoft excel, Google sheets, and other hard-copies • Trouble shooting electrical and mechanical problems in kilns as they arise Qualifications: • 2 + years experience driving a forklift • 2 + years experience in lumber industry, or working with wood • Mechanically inclined • Basic electrical experience • Attention to detail, and VERY organized • Experience with Microsoft excel and email • Familiar with laptop, desktop, and tablet • Valid drivers license and vehicle (OK with working in Portland, and Aurora OR) • Comfortable working alone, and outside • Kiln experience a plus Hours: M-F 7-4 Pay $21 – $23 / hr depending on experience Please send resume and short blurb about yourself to the email in posting.
