While the coronavirus pandemic has impacted the regular routine at The Terraces at Los Altos, it certainly hasn't dampened spirits. In fact, inside and outside the senior living community, gestures of appreciation and solidarity are abundant. We're really keeping our spirits up," said Cathy Jensen, the community's director of resident services. "We're helping with devices such as iPads and iPhones. Residents are learning; I'm learning – we're all learning." On the sidewalks around campus, team members have taken to leaving uplifting messages and colorful creations in chalk. Inside, The Terraces team has also cultivated The Message Wall – a public space where residents and team members can write and pin inspirational messages on heart-shaped notes. It's not just support within The Terraces family though. Thanks to a long-standing outreach program with local schools, the community has received handmade masks and dozens of handwritten notes and cards from current and former student volunteers. Additionally, The Terraces' long-time philanthropic partner, the National Charity League Stanford Hills Chapter, has donated handpicked floral bouquets that are shared with residents around campus. "They've been an incredible partner for more than 10 years," said Jensen of the National Charity League. "They've also sent notes and cards along with flowers and vases. We've handed those out to residents in assisted living, and we should soon have enough to deliver to our residential living residents as well."
