Milwaukee author, Kenneth Kapp, discusses his 2021 novel, Mr. Samuelson Remembers! Kapp’s book is a poignant look at aging. This novel explores the impact of dementia on family when Mary, the mother, dies at the outset of Stanley Samuelson’s decline. The children are grown and have families and careers of their own. Providing care 24 x 7 is a challenge as Stanley wants to remain in the family home – just a little longer –to celebrate what would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. His progressive decline eventually necessitates involving his grandchildren. The burden is shared but at a cost and Stanley and his family face the challenges of memory loss, health, aging, and what really makes a family. Author Kenneth Kapp was a professor of Mathematics and did research at the University of Wisconsin. After that he worked in ceramics and welding before going to IBM. He was there for more than twenty years before being downsized in 2000. He now teaches yoga and writes. Kapp lives in a suburb of Milwaukee with his wife and their beagle. He takes advantage of the many chamber music concerts in the city. He's a homebrewer and runs whitewater rivers with his son up north in the summer. Masks required in the Community Room. Presenter may remove mask while presenting.
