A memorial service honoring the life of our friend and family member, Kelly Kirks.
Kelly Dean Kirks, 62, unexpectedly left us on February 8, 2022 at his home in Dolores, Colorado. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, passion for the outdoors, creativity, and love for his family and friends.
Kelly was born on June 28, 1959, to Ethel White and “Curly” Kirks in Grand Junction. His family later moved to Colorado Springs and he spent most of his life in the Front Range. Kelly moved to the Four Corners area in 2016 to be closer to his son and cherished the quiet pace of life here.
Kelly worked as a mechanical engineer for over 20 years before moving to Dolores, upon which he worked at several local businesses including Osprey Packs before retiring in 2021. His many passions included painting, bicycling, fixing things, spending time outside, and helping others whenever he could.
He is survived by his son, Max Kirks, who lives in Mancos; his sister Christy Notary; his brother Kevin Kirks. He leaves behind a large and loving family that greatly cherished their time in Dolores with Kelly and Max during the semi-annual family reunions. He was a remarkable light in the hearts of the many friends and loved ones he touched and he will be greatly missed.
A graveside service is planned for April 9th, 2022 11am-12pm at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs, Colorado. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place in Colorado Springs afterwards, location TBA.
