USBG Indianapolis March Member's Meeting featuring Steven Dragun from Lustau Sherry Welcome all, we hope things have been off to a good start this year. USBG Indy has been back at it bringing you some fun educational classes. This month, we will be meeting at The Commodore (speakeasy) in Ft.Square off Prospect St. to learn about Sherry. Sherry is a wonderful wine to sip solo, amplify a cocktail, or use as the base spirit. Steven Dragun, Lustau's National Ambassador will be present to educate us on Sherry. The origins of Emilio Lustau S.A. date back to 1896, when Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, a secretary to the Court of Justice, started cultivating the vines of the family’s state, named Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, in his spare time. In these humble beginnings he made wines which were then sold on to larger Sherry producers. This activity was known as being an almacenista or stockeeper. In 1931, his daughter, María Ruiz-Berdejo Alberti, acquired a small winery closer to the centre of Jerez de la Frontera and moved there all the preexisting soleras, gaining notoriety and visibility. 2022 celebrates their 125th anniversary in the business, and we couldn't be happier to commemorate with them.
