SHREWSBURY, MA — Students in Shrewsbury are up against a Thursday deadline to apply for a $500 college scholarship through the town.
The annual scholarship program has been in place since the mid 1990s, and helps dozens of students per year. Last year, the town gave out 25 scholarships worth $500 each.
"These scholarships are awarded to deserving residents of Shrewsbury who are seniors at any high school. Awards are based on financial need, character, community service, and academic achievement," the town said in a recent news release.
Students can apply for a scholarship either by picking up an application at the high school guidance counselor's office or by downloading one on the town website. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on March 10.
The town scholarship fund is also accepting donations for future gifts. Tax-deductible contributions an be made be made online, or while paying an excise tax bill.
