171 Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Long Beach

LOS ANGELES, CA — There are now 4,584 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Los Angeles County, including 171 in Long Beach and 37 in Pasadena, which each have their own public health departments, health officials announced Friday. Long Beach officials reported an additional 18 cases of coronavirus in the city Friday, along with another death — a woman in her 60s with underlying health conditions. Long Beach now has a total of 171 cases and has reported three deaths among residents, although one of those deaths actually occurred in Orange County. County health officials also announced 11 new deaths of COVID-19, bringing the county total to 90. Of the 4,584 confirmed cases, 518 are still under investigation. New evidence suggests that there may be a "significant number of people infected with COVID-19 who are asymptomatic and capable of spreading the virus to others," the Los Angeles County Public Health Department news release said. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti urged Angelenos to wear makeshift masks while in public in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
