Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament, and both Arlington boys' teams played, and AHS won. A strong performance on special teams made the difference for the No. 2-seeded Spy Ponder girls (19-1-1) in their first-round win at Ed Burns Arena, as they topped No. 31 Marblehead, 4-1, on Friday. Grace Corsetti scored a crucial power-play goal for a 3-1 lead, and goaltender Elise Rodd denied a penalty shot to advance and face No. 15 seed Peabody in the next round. AHS faces No. 15 Peabody at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the Burns Arena. Boys beat Fenwick In the boys' Division 1, No. 6 Arlington beat No. 27 Bishop Fenwick on Saturday, March 5, at Ed Burns Arena. The score was 6-0. Brendan Hirsch scored a pair of goals, and the Spy Ponders (17-4-2) cruised to the first-round win. Molly Braga (two goals) opened the scoring at 12:40 in the first period, and Chloe Bryda (two goals) followed up a minute later to set the tone for the No. 7 seed Shamrocks (12-6-3) in their first-round win for Bishop Feehan over the Arlington Catholic girls, 8-2, at New England Sports Village in Attleboro. Bishop Feehan faces No. 23 Newton in the next round, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the New England Sports Village. The winner plays the winner of AHS-Peabody. No. 29 Arlington Catholic lost to No. 4 Catholic Memorial on March 5, at Warrior Arena in the second round. The score was 5-0. Tyler Hamilton broke the ice with 1:50 left in the second period for the No. 4 Knights (15-5-1), who added four goals in the third period for the first-round win. Tommy Goonan, Ty Magliozzi, Joey Borelli and Dylan LaMonica rounded out the scoring for CM, which got a shutout from Dom Walecka.
