LONG BEACH, CA — President Jane Close Conoley announced Saturday that five Cal State Long Beach students, four of which live on campus, tested positive for coronavirus. All students on-campus residence were placed in quarantine and will soon be tested. In-person instruction classes will also be paused for two weeks while the campus attempts to trace where the cases may have already spread to. "Late yesterday, we became aware of a number of students who have not heeded our guidance related to COVID-19 precautions and congregated socially off campus earlier this month," Conoley said in a statement. About 328 student residents will be tested by the Department of Health and Human Services, according to the university newspaper, the Daily 49er. The university also said that facilities would be cleaned and disinfected and administration would begin investigating student conduct issues. "As you know, we took a conservative approach to the fall semester by vastly reducing the number of students in our residence halls and the number of classes offered on campus," Conoley wrote further. "Unfortunately, even with our proactive efforts we need to adapt and respond to this new challenge."
