TEMECULA, CA — On Tuesday, Temecula's city council was expected to vote in support of Reality Rally's 2022 gathering, planned for May 5-7. Council members Maryanne Edwards and James Stew Stewart of the city's economic committee are presenting the request to approve the sponsorship agreement with Reality Rally, Inc. for in-kind support valued at $5,200 for City staff support and $11,415 for promotional services for the 2022 Reality Rally. Reality Rally is an "Amazing Race-styled" game, drawing celebrities to fundraise for a Temecula-based charity for the past ten years. Typically, events include an evening in wine country, a race through Old Town, and a celebrity chef cookoff. Though Reality Rally was on hold during the pandemic, event organizers have planned the return since late last year. The venues involved include the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and the Temecula Valley Museum. The fundraising game is the brainchild of Temecula resident and one-time Survivor contestant— Gillian Larson, a supporter of city activities, such as the recent Special Games. Larson, a South African native, was voted off her season of "Survivor." While sitting on a beach, she conceived the idea of Reality Rally. The gathering of celebrities to our town does good on multiple levels for the city and Southwest Riverside County residents. Primarily, each contestant must first earn an entry donation supporting Michelle's Place Breast Cancer Resource Center. In the past, reality celebrities have included Richard Hatch, the first-ever winner of "Survivor." Stars from reality shows such as "Amazing Race," "Naked and Afraid," "Hell's Kitchen," "Big Brother," and more have also attended. See which stars are coming in 2022. According to Temecula's Community Services Manager Dawn Adamiak, the event includes a one-day Reality Rally Challenge Race throughout Old Town. "The challenge race will incorporate and highlight many of the local attractions in Old Town Temecula, including the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and Temecula Valley Museum," Adamiak said. "Celebrity Reality TV show contestants will raise money to participate on teams and enjoy the amenities of Temecula during their weekend stay."
