WARREN COUNTY, PA — The body of a young man from Warren County who went missing in October has been found in Sussex County, police announced on Sunday. Blairstown Township Police reported the body of Daniel Cannone, 23, was discovered by hunters in Frankford Township. Cannone was reported missing on Oct. 16, 2021, by his family. The Blairstown Township Police Department investigated his disappearance, with assistance from the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey State Police. "Over the last five months, we conducted multiple searches, and door-to-door canvassing for witnesses in an attempt to locate Daniel," Blairstown Township Police said in a social media post. "We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time." Cannone's cause of death is still under investigation but no crime is suspected, according to police. Hunters called the New Jersey State Police around 11 a.m. after discovering possible human remains roughly 1,000 feet into the woods behind the Frankford Municipal Building, according to Gregory Mueller, Sussex County's first assistant prosecutor, the New Jersey Herald reported. The body was in an area not often traversed just north of August Hill Road near the Frankford Municipal Building, Mueller said. Cannone was a North Warren High School graduate. His family reported he was missing after he was seen on a Ring camera in Blairstown Oct. 16. His vehicle was later found in Augusta at the Skylands Stadium, with his wallet, phone, and other belongings nearby, the Herald reported. By Oct. 27 Cannone was listed as a missing person on NamUs, a national government network. NamUs explained on its site that the Skylands Stadium held a "Jack o Lantern Experience" on autumn weekends that Cannone was apparently attending when he disappeared. "Further investigation revealed that a possible sighting of a male party matching Daniel's description was seen running from the parking lot of Double S Smokehouse located (at) 124 US 206 (in) Augusta, New Jersey. Several K9 search and rescue efforts were conducted in the area of his last seen location which subsequently lead the investigation to the area of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, located at 209 US 206, Branchville NJ. Due to ... conditions of the area, Daniel's scent was lost," NamUs reported. Police did not confirm the NamUs report. Shortly after Connone went missing, a $10,000 reward for his safe return was offered in a social media post with family contact information. Family and friends into February continued to post reminders he remained missing. After it was announced Cannone's body had been found, dozens posted messages of sympathy to the family.
