Get on up, Sacramento! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right. First, today's weather: Mostly sunny. High: 70 Low: 44. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Two 14-year-olds were arrested in connection with racist graffiti discovered along a wall at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in mid-February, officials announced Monday. The graffiti, which included swastikas and the letters "KKK," had been spray-painted on the campus during the 2022 Abraham Lincoln's birthday observance. Investigators used video surveillance footage showing the teens on campus during the same time the vandalism is believed to have happened. (KCRA3) Low numbers of adult fall-run Chinook salmon returned to spawn in the Sacramento River in 2021, but the ocean abundance forecast for fall Chinooks, which the ocean recreational and commercial fishing seasons are largely based on, is better than last year. The 2022 ocean abundance projection for Sacramento River fall Chinook – the driver of West Coast salmon fisheries – is estimated at 396,500 adult salmon, compared to a 271,000 forecast last year at this time, according to Dr. Michael O'Farrell of the National Marine Fisheries Service. Recreational anglers and river fishing guides said relatively few salmon returned to the Sacramento River last year and its tributaries and fishing was some of the worst they had ever experienced. Robert Dunn, a Sacramento River fishing guide for 37 years, said he believes "there is an overharvest of fall fish in the ocean." (SN&R) As he went through airport security to board a flight to Las Vegas on Thursday, California Assemblymember Jim Cooper was found by TSA to have a loaded gun in a bag. The former sheriff's deputy and candidate for Sacramento County Sheriff had his loaded firearm flagged by TSA when his travel bag was spotted in a X-ray machine on Thursday. The author of the incident report offered to store his weapon and ammo, "being that Cooper was retired law enforcement and active Reserve." It is unclear if Cooper had authorization to carry a loaded firearm in his carry-on bag. (ABC10) A Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arson investigator has been engaged after a home in the Arden Arcade area caught fire for the second time within three months. The fire at the home on La Sierra Drive on Tuesday morning was knocked down and there were no victims or injuries, officials said. The home was vacant, and had previously burned in December 2021. (KCRA3) There's new fallout from the filming of the Netflix series "Jailbirds" in Sacramento. On Tuesday, county leaders will consider passing a new law that would give them final-cut over any new series that are shot inside the Sacramento County Main Jail or on reality show ride alongs. Producers for TV shows like "Cops" and "Jailbirds" have always needed county approval before filming, but now the board of supervisors wants to impose further restrictions. "The concern is that the inmate might say something that could be used against them in court," one legal expert said.
