LONG BEACH, CA — Protesters are expected to take to the streets of Long Beach Thursday evening to rally against the possibility of the U.S. entering into a war with Iran.
The rally comes days after the U.S. airstrike on Iran and killing of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. In retaliation Iran attacked two U.S. military bases in Iraq.
"Come and join us at Harvey Milk Promenade Park to show Trump and his hawkish administration that the American people do not stand for aggression and war toward Iran," the Long Beach protest organizers said.
Liberal advocacy groups Move On and Indivisible are behind the war protests in Long Beach and throughout the country. As of Wednesday morning, 245 protests had been organized, according to the rally's website.
"Trump's reckless action has needlessly endangered countless lives of U.S. troops, Iraqis, Iranians, and countless other civilians," organizers wrote on their website. "The devastation that a war with Iran could bring upon the earth and humanity cannot be overstated—millions of lives hang in the balance."
Protesters will meet Thursday at 5 p.m., at the Harvey Milk Promenade Park. Rally organizers are using the hashtag #NoWarWithIran.
