CLEVELAND — Police need the public's help finding a group of men who tried to break into an ATM at the Huntington Bank on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland. Investigators on Tuesday released images of a van the would-be thieves used while trying to break into the ATM. Those surveillance photos are above this article. On March 2, police saw a group of men hitting an ATM with a sledgehammer at the Huntington Bank on St. Clair Avenue. When the men saw officers approaching, they hopped into a stolen van and drove away. Police followed the van until it stopped and four men jumped out and ran away. They left the stolen van running in the middle of the street, according to Cleveland police. Inside the van was a power saw, a crowbar, chains, a sledgehammer, and a cell phone. None of the men were apprehended by officers. The ATM at the bank was badly damaged, police said. The would-be thieves managed to saw off a security bar, and pried open the outer casing to get access to the ATM's interior safe. They used the sledgehammer to try and open the safe, but were unsuccessful, the report said. Anyone with information on the attempted ATM break-in should contact police at 216-25-CRIME.
