ROSWELL, GA — Roswell City Council opposes a House and Senate bill that would limit local government from imposing certain restrictions on rental development and zoning. Council unanimously approved a resolution opposing HB 1093 and SB 494 at a special Monday meeting. The bill would also prohibit the City from making land use and zoning decisions. The Bills are aimed at allowing unlimited access for corporations to develop "build to rent" subdivisions, which vary greatly in price, quality, management and tenant protections, said the City. "Local elected officials are responsible for ensuring affordable, predictable housing options within their respective communities," according to the Resolution. "Such housing and land use decisions are best made at the local level through comprehensive planning and citizen input. "To ensure vibrant and sustainable communities, local governments require flexibility to decide what is appropriate for their community's neighborhoods."
