LIVERMORE, CA — It wasn't your typical dance recital. There was no theater, no audience, no dressing rooms of anxious girls waiting to go onstage and show off months of hard work. There was, however, a global pandemic — one that prevented groups from gathering and called for six feet of distance between all. But even the pandemic couldn't stop the Livermore School of Dance girls, who gathered last week to film a socially distant dance recital in the studio's parking lot. "We've had plan A, B, C," said Liz Roberts, who co-owns the dance school with Shelly Schoendients. "I think we're down to probably almost D of what we were going to do for our recital." With their landlord's blessing, Roberts and Schoendients moved the recital into the parking lot. They built a dance floor over the parking spaces and borrowed some curtains to make a backdrop for the performers. "The show must go on," Livermore School of Dance said on its Facebook page. The dancers followed protocols and found a way to showcase their routines while maintaining social distance. "We feel very proud and our dancers are doing a great job," Roberts said. Livermore Downtown hailed the school for its ingenuity. "This is why we love our Livermore local, creative, innovative entrepreneurs!" the association wrote on Facebook.
