1K New Coronavirus Cases, 17 Deaths Reported In PA

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,008 additional positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the statewide total to 142,885. Of those, 82 percent have recovered. The highest increases were reported out of Allegheny and Centre counties. Allegheny saw an increase of 100 cases and Centre reported an increase of 137 cases. Also Friday, 17 new deaths were reported, bringing the state's total deaths since the start of the pandemic to 7,837. Over the past seven days, there were 151,264 coronavirus tests taken in Pennsylvania with 5,106 positive cases. "We know that congregation, especially over holidays and in college and university settings, yields increased case counts. The mitigation efforts in place now are essential to flattening the curve and saving lives," Secretary of Health Rachel Levine said in a news release. "Wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings, and telework will help keep our case counts low." Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows: Approximately 1 percent are ages 0-4Nearly 2 percent are ages 5-12Approximately 4 percent are ages 13-18Nearly 12 percent are ages 19-24 Nearly 37 percent are ages 25-49Approximately 22 percent are ages 50-64Nearly 23 percent are ages 65 or older
